George H. Minor Sr.

Minor, George H. Sr. MONONA George H. Minor Sr., age 85, of Monona, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2008, at home with his loving wife at his side holding his hand. He was born on Oct. 7, 1922, in Lemonweir Township, Mauston, the son of John and Victoria (Reibele) Minor. George graduated from Madison East High School in 1941. He married Eunice Manske on Sept. 18, 1954, at Bethel Lutheran Church, Madison. George served his country in the U.S. Navy, on board the U.S.S. Marblehead. He sailed to many ports including Rio de Janeiro, the Atlantic coast of Africa, South America, and Belfast, Ireland. He joined the Navy with his best friend, Don Schluter. George was an electricians mate on board working in the engine room. He also went to Gyro Compass School in New York City. He attended his Navy reunions every year until he was unable to travel. After serving in the military, George joined his father in the family business, Minor Plastering, and later joined Fix Brothers Plastering until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7591. George loved to travel; his trips included a two month trip to Alaska, as well as traveling to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. George and Eunice traveled all over the United States, his favorite place was the outer banks of North Carolina. George also drove around Charlotte National Speedway. He was an avid NASCAR and Packers fan. George loved to cook and enjoyed family get-togethers, especially Christmas Eve. His specialty was making bacon wrapped chestnuts. George is survived by his wife, Eunice of Monona; children, George (Susie) Minor Jr. of Keene, N.H., Tom (Linda) Minor of Madison, and Dan (Barb) Minor of Monona; and grandchildren, Joe, Dana and Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, John Minor. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, on Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, from 5 p.m until 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to HospiceCare Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg, WI 53711.
