Obituary
White, Jane Marilyn (Hammond) COTTAGE GROVE / SUN PRAIRIE Jane Marilyn (Hammond) White, age 86, passed away on Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, after a long illness. She was born on Dec. 21, 1921, on the family farm in Cottage Grove, the daughter of Robert and Edith (Northam) Hammond. After graduating from Madison East High School in 1939, she earned her degree from the UW-Madison School of Nursing. She was united in marriage to Warren O. White in 1962. Jane worked for the Veterans Hospital in Madison; Danville, Illinois; Iowa City, Iowa; Indianapolis, Indiana and retired from the VA Hospital in Tomah as the assistant chief nurse of training. After her retirement, Jane continued nursing in the Madison area. She was an active member of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, the Wisconsin Alumni Association, Colonial Club and was a member of the Elks. She was on the Dane County Commission of Aging Area Aging Board, the Long Term Support Committee and the Dane County Unified Services Board. Jane volunteered many hours of service through RSVP, delivering Meals on Wheels, Driver Escort and assisting students at Sun Prairie Elementary Schools. Jane loved to travel, corresponding and visiting with lifelong friends. She hosted international visitors and traveled with them through her association with the Friendship Force. Jane especially loved spending time with family. She was a natural care giver, helping family and friends in need. She helped keep the farm in the Hammond family and she spent most holidays and special occasions there. Jane is survived by her brother, Kenneth (Jean) Hammond of Sun Prairie; a sister, Del (Stuart Goff) Howley of Petaluma, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Hammond of Cottage Grove and Barbara Hammond of Union, Ky.; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren in 1972; her parents; a sister, Rachel; and three brothers, Reginald, Robert and Harry. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at 2p.m. at BRYN MAWR PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 229 N. Main St., Cottage Grove with the Rev. Thomas Ferguson presiding. A private inurnment will take place at Cottage Grove Cemetery at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff at Capitol Lakes Health Care Center, (formally Meriter Health Care Center) for the care they gave Jane in the last years of her life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church or to Alzheimers Association. Thank you for everything Jane. You were so generous and caring, we love you and will miss you!
