Phyllis E. 'Pudge' Larson

Larson, Phyllis E. "Pudge"MADISON/EAGLE RIVER - Phyllis E. "Pudge" Larson, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2009, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle against cancer. She was born on Aug. 5, 1925, in Madison, the daughter of Edwin A. and Getrude Johnson. Phyllis married Marvin J. Larson on Oct. 9, 1944. She worked for the State of Wisconsin, retiring in 1984. She spent many years with family and friends at their cabin on Lake Wisconsin during the 60's and 70's. After her retirement, Phyllis and Marvin moved up to Eagle River where she enjoyed boating, hunting, and fishing, with the occasional snipe hunting experience. During her time in Eagle River, she helped with the building of the Larson's High Point Resort, and the family\'s vacation cottage. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, quilting and sewing with her sewing groups, knitting and crocheting, and entertaining company at her house. Phyllis was a past member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison and the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle River. Phyllis is survived by her husband of 64 years, Marvin; her sons, Barry (Linda) Larson of Warner Robbins, GA, and Craig (Judy) Larson of Lodi; her daughter Jacqulyne (John) Spiess of Eagle River; eight grandchildren, Heath (Tanya) Larson, Chris Larson, Monique (Matt) Hicks, Nick Larson, Natalie (Dan) Foot, Heidi (Nick) Court, Clayton Spiess and Lacey Spiess; seven great-grandchildren, Hailey, Jaelyn, Brogan, Olivia, Tyler, Hunter and Dakota; one brother, Donald Johnson of Madison; and sisters-in-law, Delores Smith of Madison, Rosie Platt of Madison, and Mary Lou Stephenson of Lake Delton. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Pharel Havey; and granddaughter Melanie Larson. A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr. Madison, on Friday, June 26, 2009 at 6 p.m.. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 26, 2009 from 4 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
