Flag Godfrey, Wm. "Bill" MADISON - Wm. "Bill" Godfrey, age 77, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009 at HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born on May 24, 1931, in Dodgeville, the son of Elmore E. and Rose Mary (Paradis) Godfrey. Bill married Emma Giebel on July 18, 1956, in Dubuque, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Bill owned and operated various stations in the Madison area for 25 years. He also worked at Russell Marina, selling boats for ten years. Bill enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church. Bill is survived by his wife, Emma; daughter Sally Jane (Kevin) Rucker; four grandchildren, Matthew and Katherine Ross, Kayla and Alyssa Rucke;r sisters, Catherine Cassidy and Jane Ann Navickis; brother, John "Jack" (Anna Mae) Godfrey; brothers-in-law, Freddie (Lola) Giebel, Frank (Susan) Giebel and Bob Grossenbacher; sisters-in-law, Ann Fuller and Audrey Acheson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Elmore George Godfrey. A memorial service will be held at MESSIAH EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5202 Cottage Grove Rd., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, with the Reverend Jeff VandenHeuvel presiding. Inurnment will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be made to Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church Building Fund.
