Brodhagen, Virginia Lois Latham MADISON/STOUGHTON -Virginia Lois Brodhagen, age 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at her residence at Sebring Assisted Care in Madison. She was born Virginia Lois Jarman on July 21, 1923, in Jacksonville, Fla., the only child of Roy Emerson Jarman and Marian Virginia (Cadwallader) Jarman. Virginia attended Sonia Serovas School of Fine Arts where she studied ballet. She also studied voice with her father who performed opera with the Metropolitan Opera Company in New York. Virginia subsequently taught ballet and ultimately founded a successful ballet studio through which she taught many students during the early and middle years of her life. Virginia married Dudley Eugene Latham, Jr. in 1942 in New York, NY. Together, they raised two sons on Long Island, N.Y., where Virginia also pursued her ballet teaching career. Upon retirement, Virginia and Dudley moved to Stoughton, to be closer to family. After nursing Dudley through a terminal illness, Virginia married William "Bill" Brodhagen of Stoughton, and gained three much-cherished daughters. Virginia was married to Dudley for 41 years and Bill for 20 years. Virginia liked to remark that no one should be so lucky as to have found two great men in one lifetime. In Stoughton, Virginia became involved in a variety of community and civic organizations. Her faith always a guiding force, Virginia enjoyed a variety of social and volunteer activities within Covenant Lutheran Church where she was a devoted choir member. In addition to ballet and choir, Virginia had a keen love of travel, gardening, and flower arranging. A founding member of the Stoughton Garden Club, Virginia was a fixture on the Stoughton garden scene for many years. She actively participated in her local PEO and Entre Nous clubs as well. Virginia and Bill enjoyed traveling to many exotic locales during their retirement years. She was also a great supporter of MARC, the organization through which her son, Larry, receives such excellent care.Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; and both beloved husbands. Virginia is survived by her two sons, Del (Kathleen) and Larry; and her step-daughters, Sandy (Joe), Linda (Don), and Jackie (Dean). She is additionally survived by 16 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Joe), Cliff (Monica), Greg (Jen), Tom (Anne Marie), Mark (Alicia), John, Andrew (Alison), Eric (Paula), Neal, Nathan (Lindsay), Donny, David, Barry, Marya, Ben (Michelle), and Bethany (John). Virginia is also survived by 25 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at COVENANT LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1525 N. Van Buren, Stoughton, at 11a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, with the Rev. Mark Petersen presiding. Burial will be held at Prairie Mound Cemetery in Oregon. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to MARC.
