Obituary

White, Mary L. Veronaâ?¬??Mary White, age 46, passed away at her home on March 6, 2009, surrounded by family, after a courageous 13 year battle with breast cancer. She was born in Chicago; her parents were Clarence and Beverly Foster. She was married to husband Dale White in 1990 in Seattle and together they raised a daughter, Campbell Rae White, age 16. Mary was a graduate of Northeastern Illinois University in 1986. She was awarded an athletic scholarship and played basketball and softball while completing her degree. Her professional career spanned 22 years in the cable telecommunications industry. After her first job in Chicago, Marys career path took her to Seattle with TCI, Denver with AT&T Broadband/Comcast and ultimately Madison in 2005, where she was Central Division President for Charter Communications. A dynamic leader and mentor, Mary received numerous cable industry awards, including the coveted Women in Cable Television (WICT) Walk of Fame designation (Colorado Chapter) and was honored at the WICT Wonder Women 2008 luncheon in New York City. She continued to successfully lead management teams during multiple treatments for her illness and was often recognized as being an inspiration with her courage, sense of humor, competitiveness, zest for life and integrity. Offering a basketball analogy, Mary encouraged others: "You will miss 100% of the shots you never take." Among her "bucket list" of achievements was participating in a U.S. Olympic Committee pilot leadership program in Lake Placid, NY in 2008. Mary completed a run on the famed Olympic bobsled course, realizing a dream and personal goal she had set years earlier. Including her husband Dale and daughter Campbell, Mary is survived by her mother, Beverly Foster of Illinois, Sisters Donna Sremanik of Illinois, Laurie Foster of Michigan and brother Clarence Bud Foster of Illinois along with numerous nieces and nephews. Her younger brother, John, passed away unexpectedly in 2008. She was close to all of her husband Dales family members, including her mother-in-law Myra White of Washington state, who provided continuous loving care during the final year of Marys life. Mary knew that she was blessed by numerous visits from friends and family as her illness progressed. Even though she was fatigued and weakened from breast cancer, it never stopped her from "rallying" to welcome a visitor. Her upbeat attitude and sense of humor will be a long living memory for all who knew her. Funeral services will be held at BLACKHAWK EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH, 9620 Brader Way, (one mile west of the Beltline on Mineral Point Road), Verona, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2009. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. For those wishing to express their sympathy, may consider a donation to Blackhawk Church in lieu of flowers.
