Obituary

Jensen, Marion Louise Ahlquist MADISON-Marion Louise Ahlquist Jensen, age 91, of Madison passed away peacefully on March 27, 2009 at Capitol Lakes Retirement Center. She was born Aug. 25, 1917 in Rockford, Ill., the daughter of August & Ebba (Lindgren) Ahlquist. Marion married Donald Jensen on June 25, 1948 in Rhinelander, a union that lasted 35 years. Marion graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1934. She trained as a nurse at Augustana College of Nursing in Chicago, with additional certification in Infant & Early Childhood Care. She served in World War II as a Navy Nurse stationed in Hawaii, and was discharged in 1946 at the rank of Lieutenant. She was a Public Health Nurse in Madison, and later worked at UW Hospitals in radiation therapy. Marion was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church for over 60 years and was active in the BLCW, Altar Guild, Westmoreland Circle, XYZ , and she also worked as a church office volunteer. She was active in the lives of her children and their activities. She was a Girl Scout and 4-H leader. She also maintained strong ties to the University of Wisconsin College of Agriculture and the UW Alumni Association. Marion is survived by daughters, Janet (Jack Heisler) Jensen of Grafton and Joanne (Charles ) Taylor of Monona; grandchildren, Matthew (Kelly) Taylor of Milwaukee, Abigail Taylor of Calif., Brianne, Brooke and Ali Taylor of Monona; one great -granddaughter, Charlotte Taylor; brother, Clifford Ahlquist of New Richmond; nephews, Richard (Shelley) Ahlquist, Jim (Cyndee) Ahlquist, Bruce (Gigi) Jensen, Donna (Alan) Olson and Diane (Peter) Bugni. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her sister, Jeanette Noble. Funeral services will be held at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 Wisconsin Avenue, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tues., March 31, 2009 with the Reverend John Swanson officiating. Visitation will be held at Gunderson East Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, March 30, 2009 and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church. A special thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Capital Lakes Retirement Center. We mourn her passing and cherish her memory.
