Obituary

Genter, Louis F. Sr. MADISON-Louis F. Genter Sr., age 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2009. Lou was born on July 10, 1925, in San Diego, Calif., the son of George F. and Sarah E. Genter. In 1937, he moved with his family to St. Louis, Mo. Lou attended Chaminade Prep School. He was drafted by the Boston Red Sox out of high school, but chose instead to go to college, attending St. Louis University before joining the U. S. Navy during World War II. After returning from the war, Lou resumed his education at St. Louis University, graduating in 1948. He also did post-graduate work at St. Marys University, San Antonio, Texas and UW-Madison. Lou worked for American Family Insurance from 1951 until 1991. On July 4, 1991, he married Sally Dockter. She preceded him in death on Sept. 11, 1992. Lou was a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers, the Wisconsin Badgers and the Milwaukee Brewers. He is survived by his five children, Fran (Marianne), Liz (Tommie) Boyd, Kelly (Angie), Kent (Jill), and Chris (Kevin) Orfan; 10 grandchildren, Katie, Dan and Laura Genter, Lindsay (Curt) Husting, Taylor and Olivia Genter, Ethan and Isabelle Genter, and Brooke and Kelsey Orfan; and two great-grandchildren, Kaelyn and Kendal Husting. Lou is also survived by grand-puppies, Nola, Magic, Jaz, KoKo and Kyssi. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Ethel Smith. A celebration of Lous life will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at 2 p.m., at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison. Visitation will be from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name would be appreciated to St. Marys Foundation for the Benefit of the Dialysis Fund, 700 S. Park St., Madison, WI 53715 or Chaminade Prep School, 425 E. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63131. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of St. Marys Renal Services Center for being Lous second family for all these years.
