Herb Gausewitz

Gausewitz, Herb MONONA-Herb Gausewitz, age 62, of Monona, passed into eternal sleep on Monday, May 11, 2009, having loved his life to the fullest, enjoying it to the end. He was born on Dec. 2, 1946, to Carl and Mary (Hackett) Gausewitz. Herb was a graduate of Monona Grove High School and received his physics degree from Northland College in Ashland. Herb continued his education at UW-Milwaukee, where he received his masters degree in architecture. He married Margie Vana on March 4, 1978, in Oshkosh. Professionally, Herb had his own architectural practice and served on the Monona Grove School Board. He was very active at Lake Edge United Church of Christ and was in the choir, bell choir and on several church committees. Throughout his journey, Herb was an avid lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed trail rides and camping. He was an Eagle Scout and Sea Scout. Herb coached youth league baseball, and was an enthusiastic supporter and fan of Monona and Ripon swimming. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Marge; children, Mandi and Jonny Gausewitz; his mother, Mary "Wendy" Gausewitz; a brother, Carl "Gordon" Gausewitz of Ohio; as well as several extended family members. Herb was preceded in death by his father, Carl H. Gausewitz. Funeral services will be held at LAKE EDGE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 4200 Buckeye Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 15, 2009, with the Rev. Paul Shupe presiding. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2009, and at the church, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at UW Hospitals and Clinics for their loving care.
