Obituary
No PhotoSchmidt, Gerhard H.MONONA - Gerhard H. Schmidt died at Portage Divine Savior Hospital Sunday, July 26, 2009, after suffering a stroke at his cottage on Pleasant Lake, at the age of 80. He will be mourned by his son, William Schmidt; his daughter-in-law, Noemi Scmidt; his daughter, Ann Holmes; and his grandson, David Holmes. He also had a sister in Wisconsin, Margot Jescke and her husband, Arthur and their children, Rick and Lynne. He also has a surviving sister, Jutta Hassepass, her son Burkhardt Schmidt, and many family members and friends in Germany. He was preceded in death by his parent, and his daughter, Susan Gerhard, also known as Gary and sometimes Gerry, was a veteran of the Korean War. He was married to Phyllis Powell and the had three children, Susie, Ann and Bill. He was an electrician who worked for Academy Electric and Ace Electric. He was an electrical inspector for many years in the City of Monona and was an electrical union president for several years as well. After retirement, he did much charitable work for places such as Ronald McDonald House and had many causes that he donated to also. He was a very generous man with his time and his money and will be missed by a great many people who's lives he touched. Per his wishes, there will be a small private ceremony for family members and friends at his cottage on Pleasant Lake in a few weeks. Any cards, letters or monetary donations should be mailed to William Schmidt, 701 Kelly Place, Monona. No flowers are necessary. He will be missed by many friends and family.
