James D. Hoppe

FITCHBURG - James D. Hoppe, age 65, of Fitchburg, passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, at his home. He was born on April 13, 1944, in Portage, the son of Dwight and Bernice (Mullenbach) Hoppe. James graduated from Portage High School in 1962. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1962 until 1966. James married Kathleen Shortreed in 1969, in Portage. He currently worked at Alpha Baking Company since 1997 and previously at Metz Baking and National Baking. James was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, golfing and curling. James is survived by his son, David (Jennifer) Hoppe of Madison; granddaughters, Samantha and Molly Mae Hoppe; brothers, Dick (Judy) Hoppe of New Berlin, Bill Hoppe of Oregon, and Gip Hoppe of Massachusetts; a sister, Judy Hoppe of Waunakee; and former wife, Kathleen Hoppe of Plover. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Paul Hoppe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, with Father David Greenfield presiding.
