Obituary

MADISON-Lorene J. Zimmerman, age 86, wife of the late Harry P. Zimmerman and mother of Kay L. Hagness and the late H. Paul Zimmerman passed away on Friday, September 4, 2009. She was born August 10, 1923 at home in Nashoba, a community nestled in the Kiamichi Mountains in Oklahoma. She attended grade school in Nashoba and high school at Clayton. She attended East Central in Ada, Oklahoma becoming the first member of her family to graduate from college. Lorene stayed with East Central as Assistant Registrar. It was through the registrar's window that she met her future husband, Harry P. Zimmerman, a soldier registering for classes after returning from the European Theatre of World War II. They were married August 10, 1946 at the old Methodist Church in Ada, Oklahoma. Lorene and Harry lived in Oklahoma City where daughter, Kay, was born, Conway, Arkansas, where son, Paul, was born and Norman, Oklahoma, where Harry received his PhD. They moved their family to Wisconsin in 1958 when Harry joined the faculty at the University of Wisconsin. They moved from Madison to Middleton in 1961 where they lived and raised their family. Lorene worked in Human Resources at M& I Bank of Hilldale for several years. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jay and William Hagness, of Middleton, daughter-in-law Karen Lauria Zimmerman, Apple Valley, Minnesota, brother and sister-in-law Casey and Glynn Johnson of Rosebug, Oregon, Harry's sister and her husband, Phyllis and Stanley Lasarsky, and grandchildren Nicholas Zimmerman (Tami Greunhagen) of Hudson, WI, Erin Hagness of Evanston, IL, Leah Zimmerman of Madison, and Sarah Hagness of Middleton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Franklin and Lillie May Johnson, her husband, Harry P. Zimmerman, son, H. Paul Zimmerman, sister and brother-in-law, Avie Lavon (Bonnie) and James Howard, her husband's parents, John W. and Clara Zimmerman, sister-in-law, Clara Ruth Zimmerman Alexander, a brother-in-law, John W., Jr. and his wife Alline Palmore Zimmerman. Special thanks from Lorene's family to Dr. Richard Day, Physician's Assistant, Gail Gaustad and the wonderful staff on third floor Hebron of Oakwood Village West for the care and attention you gave her Funeral services will be held at ASBURY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 6101 University Ave., Madison at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2009. Interment will follow at Middleton Junction Cemetery, Middleton. Family and friends may call on Friday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the American Parkinson's Association Visitation: Friends may call on Friday from 12:30 PM until the time of the service at the church. Service: Memorial services will be held at ASBURY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 6101 University Ave., Madison at 1:00 PM on Friday, Sept. 11, 2009.
