Obituary
SUN PRAIRIE-Shirley E. (Bowes) Moldrem, age 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at the Ellen and Peter Johnson HospiceCare Residence in Fitchburg, surrounded by her family. Shirley was born on Feb. 25, 1920, in Prairie du Chien, to Ben and Wilma Bowes. She married Clifford Moldrem on Oct. 23, 1941. They would have celebrated 69 years of marriage on Oct. 23, 2009. They moved to Sun Prairie in 1942. Shirley and her husband co-owned a business in Sun Prairie, Koltes and Moldrem Hardware and Furniture, later becoming Moldrems Furniture from 1950 until 1999. She was a member of American Legion Womens Auxiliary and belonged to church ladies circles at Bristol, Our Saviors, then Burke Lutheran Churches. Shirley was a corn festival volunteer, a Girl Scout leader and a 4-H leader. She enjoyed being with her family and friends. Shirley and her family traveled the U. S. and Canada. She enjoyed going to Las Vegas and Ho-Chunk. Shirley also enjoyed boating, camping and Sunday cook-outs with family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend. Shirley was an excellent cook and homemaker. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 69 years, Cliff Moldrem; children, Linda (Doug) Gooch, Vicki (Larry) Cutler, and John (Marjorie) Moldrem; grandchildren, Julie (Bill) Ast, Steven Gooch, Jim (Abbey) Walker, Matthew Cutler, and Aaron and Shayne Moldrem; great-grandchildren, Brooke (Timothe) Catlin, Taylor Maki, and Drew and Corinne Sharon Walker; great-great-grandchildren, Lilith Maki and Rhea Catlin; son-in-law, Ken Walker; and friends, Helen and Oscar Sell, and Libby and Orville Scheurell. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; step father, Bill Otwaska; two sisters, Norma Ebert and Marian Bowes; a daughter, Sharon Walker; and a granddaughter, Jessica Moldrem. Private family services will be held, with burial at Roselawn Memorial Park in Monona, officiated by Cliff and Shirleys nephew, the Rev. Duane Everson. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ellen and Peter Johnson HospiceCare Residence, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg, WI 53711. The family would like to thank St. Marys 5th floor ICU and 8th floor, and Ellen and Peter Johnson HospiceCare for their loving and compassionate care during her last few days on earth.
