Obituary

MADISON-Dr. Marion E. Murphy died October 12, 2009 at the age of 86. She was born March 8, 1923 in Fond du Lac to Charles and Lura Estabrooks. After completing high school, she entered the University of Wisconsin-Madison earning a Bachelor of Arts degree followed by enrolling in the Medical School receiving her Doctor of Medicine degree in 1946. Her post graduate medical education was at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison which led to board certification in Internal Medicine followed by certification in Allergy and Immunology. Dr. Murphy practiced medicine at the University of Wisconsin Student Health Service from 1951 until her retirement in 1996. Marion and Dr. Quillian R. Murphy were married September 1, 1949 eventually making their home in the Hill Farms area in Madison. Her husband died in 1976. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include three nieces; Elizabeth Boomer, Waukegan, Marion (Ross) Hauser, Oak Park, and Ellen (C.W.) Hall, West Jordan, Utah, a grand niece Sarah, a great grand niece Kylie Brown also of West Jordan, a sister-in-law, Marion Murphy of Birmingham, Alabama and a brother -in-law, Richard Boomer of Waukegan. Marion was preceded in death by her husband, sister Lura and grand nephew Tommy Jackson. Marion's request was that a service with a few close friends be held on Friday, October 23, 2009 at 1:00 PM to attend the spreading of her ashes on her gravesite next to her husband in FOREST HILL CEMETERY, 1 Speedway Road, Madison, with the Reverend G. Keith Schroerlucke presiding. The family thanks all the caregivers at Sebring Assisted Care Residence of Coventry Village for the excellent and loving care give Marion during her time with them.
