Albert M. 'Mel' Van Gilder

Van Gilder, Albert M. STOUGHTON- Albert M. "Mel" Van Gilder, age 81, of Stoughton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 26, 2009, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 6, 1928, in Madison, the son of John and Corabelle (Peas) Van Gilder. Mel married Marilyn Geiger on October 6, 1951 in Red Bank, New Jersey. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Mel is survived by his four children, Cynthia (Frank) Myers of Madison, Cathleen (Mark) Vike of Stoughton, Daniel (Lori) Van Gilder of Stoughton, and Matthew (Kathy) Van Gilder of Jacksonville, Florida; five grandchildren, Justin, Crystal, Elizabeth, Michael and Steven; sisters-in-law, June Farmer and Marge Geiger; and five nieces and nephews, Janet, Darrell, Edward, Carolyn and Eileen. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilyn; son, Michael; granddaughter, Dannielle; and two brothers-in-law, Darrell and Kermit. A celebration of Mels life will be held from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009 at his daughter Cathleens home.
