Obituary

Heard, Lillie Mae (Brown) FITCHBURG-Lillie Mae (Brown) Heard, age 89, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, in Fitchburg. She was born on June 6, 1920, in Kirkwood, Mo., the daughter of Fred and Stella (Turner) Brown. Lillie Mae was educated in St. Louis, Mo. She married Clyde Heard in 1963. Lillie Mae worked as a certified nurses aide at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago for many years. She was also a seamstress, the first black lady to become a bricklayer, and a childcare provider. Lillie Mae had eight children. She is survived by her daughters, Elaine B. White of Madison, and Doris A. Brown of Chicago; sons, Tyrone P. Brown of Chicago, William E. Brown of Chicago, and Gregory I. Brown of Madison; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a host of family members and friends. Lillie Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde; sister, Hazel Vinson Beard; brother, Buster Brown; and children, Hazel C. Brown and Carey Brown. Funeral services will be held at TRUE WORSHIPERS COMMUNITY CHURCH, 2924 Fish Hatchery Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, with the Rev. L.V. Jackson presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be at Middleton Junction Cemetery immediately following the service.
