Obituary

Lawrence G. Rudie died on December 21st, 2009 at age 90. He was born on April 16th, 1919 in the town of Gillette, Wisconsin to the late Holstein G. and Bertha (Bermeister) Rudie. He married Elaine L. Lambrecht of Two Rivers on August 24th, 1946. Lawrence graduated from Gillett High School in 1938 and was employed at the Gillett Plywood Co until enlisting in the army on October 15th, 1940. On December 7th, 1941, Pearl Harbor Day, the regiment received orders to ship out to New York, and departed from the East Coast staging area for overseas service in February 1942 to provide additional anti aircraft defense forces for Iceland. Lawrence became part of the 635 Anti-aircraft battalion, as a Tech. Sergeant assigned to commander\'s staff. The 635 transferred to Normandy (D-day + 6) served the entire war in the European theater, including Normandy, Northern France, and Germany. Discharged on June 12, 1945 after 3 years and 3 months in Europe, Lawrence entered Marquette University on the GI bill, graduating with a BS in business in 1949. He worked as a Revenue Officer for the Internal Revenue Service, retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Sheboygan, Hope Lutheran Church in Madison and First Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. In addition to his wife Elaine, survivors include; 3 sons, Noel (Jane) Rudie, of Oskaloosa, Iowa and their children Laura and Michael, Alan (Cynthia) Rudie of Madison and their children, Ian and Gwen, and Glen (Laurie) Rudie of Pleasant Springs and their children, Luke and Hans. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Arthur, Norman, Edwin, and Anker; 6 sisters, Charlotte Frances, Hilda Suring, Arlene Conrad, Bertha Hilgenberg, Tina and Mabel Rudie. Funeral services will the held at FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 521 N. 8th Street, Manitowoc, Wis., at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, January 8, 2010, with Rev. Roald Harswick presiding. Burial will be in the Forest View Cemetery, Two Rivers, Wis., with military rites. There will be a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church on Friday.
