Thousand, Robert K. "Bob"SUN PRAIRIE/MADISON - Robert K. Thousand, age 82, of Madison/Sun Prairie passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at Meriter Hospital. He was born on July 22, 1927 in Mount Horeb, the son of Edward and Anna (Fredrickson) Thousand. Bob graduated as valedictorian at Mount Horeb High School. He married Joyce Marie Hansen on Nov. 22, 1947 in Madison at Bethel Lutheran Church. After their marriage, Bob went to work at the Oscar Mayer Plant, and retired from there as a payroll supervisor after 42 years of service. He was an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church for more than 50 years. Bob and Joyce enjoyed camping and traveling with friends. He also enjoyed gardening and tinkering with mechanical and electrical things, feeding and watching birds and spending time with his family and friends. Bob is survived by his son, Keith (Denise) of Pewaukee; daughter, Dorothy (Henry) Haugley of Sun Prairie; grandchildren, Jason (Rachel) Haugley of Ellsworth, Andrea (Ryan) Lang of Shawnee, Kan., and Rob (Melissa) Thousand of Verona; great-grandchildren, Jonah Haugley, Payton, Tyler and Camryn Lang; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; parents; and sisters, Gertrude Huff and Ardis Hiles. Funeral services will be held at HOLY CROSS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2670 Milwaukee St., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, with the Rev. Mark F. Bartels presiding. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, and at the church on Monday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials may be made in Bob's name to Holy Cross Lutheran Church. We thought of you with love today, but this is nothing new. We thought of you yesterday and the days before that too. We think of you in silence and often speak your name. All we have now are our memories, and your picture in a frame. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn't go alone. A part of us went with you, the day God took you home. Memorials: Memorials may be made in Bob's name to Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Cemetery: Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. My sympathy to you. Know that I will miss Bob's welcoming smile, his optimism, his assuring me that all was well. It was a privilege to know him - even if only for a little while. May he rest in peace.

We all loved Bob. He was such a gentle kind spirit - with a twinkling smile. He seemed to enjoy our Saturdays at the Seventies at the end of the day..we anjoyed it with him! He is already greatly missed at dialysis. Deepest sympathy to the whole family. Cathy RN

I want to extend my sympathy to your family during this difficult time. I really enjoyed getting to know Bob during his time at St. Mary's and will certainly miss his smile and the twinkle in his eyes! He was always so kind and upbeat and his spirit will be missed!
