Obituary
Storberg, Linda "DeeDee" C.
MADISON-Linda "DeeDee" Storberg, age 57, of Arena, died tragically in an automobile accident on her way to work on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, in the township of Black Earth. She was born in Eau Claire, on Feb. 21, 1952. DeeDee was an RN at Tellurian Detoxification Unit in Madison. DeeDee worked as an RN for various emergency and out-reach services. Her career in this field began as an EMT in Platteville. She furthered her vocational goals and accomplished a life long dream of becoming a psych nurse. DeeDees expectations reached beyond her goals as her career expanded in service to others. Her impeccable work history included UW Hospital, Mercy ER Hospital, Mendota State Hospital, Tellurian Detoxification Unit and Hope Haven in-patient treatment services, all of Madison. Her "tell it like it is" ways of expression never left you wondering where you stood with her. She is survived by her loving daughter, Sandy Williams; granddaughter, Brittney Williams of Arena; siblings, Virginia McGraw of Chippewa Falls, Jeff Storberg, Cyndi Kase, Margie Storberg, all of Platteville, and Scheila Storberg (Mike) Paez of Poy Sippi; nephews and nieces, Denise Woodford, Chad (Anjeli) Kase, Ryan (Jessica) Kase, Douglas McGraw, Brent Kase, Travis Storberg, and Nichole Storberg of Wausau; great-nephews and great-nieces; former husband, Keith Williams; and her beloved animals, Mia, Jake, Ridgeway, Keyra, and Punkin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eileen Richter and Frank Storberg; stepfather, Stan Richter; and more of her beloved pets. Dont focus on her death but on her victorious achievements, her spirit, and her love of life. A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. "Her love of family and friends, for animals and music, for all things beautiful, lovely and honorable. DeeDee believed her greatest achievement was her daughter Sandy and granddaughter Brittney."

Not sure if you would remember me but Dee Dee and I were good friends all through high school. She was my maid of honor when I got married. I'm so sad that we lost touch and never had a chance to get together and catch up on things. I sure wish I would of taken the time to look her up on Facebook or something. I can still here her laugh. We had so many good times. You and your Mom and me and my son Heath used to go to the lake all the time in the summer. I new the minute I seen your picture that you had to belong to DeeDee, you look so much like her.Your Mom was one in a million and if you are anything like her you are one lucky girl.I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

It's an honor and privilege to call DeeDee my friend. DeeDee had more stamina than anyone—she never gave up, and she never allowed others to give up. DeeDee’s life wasn’t easy--DeeDee faced powerful adversaries that took a toll on her energies and endurance and, at times, they exhausted the last vestiges of her courage and strength; yet, she not only overcame her adversaries, she conquered them.
Some of my favorite memories of DeeDee include when we were in EMT class—to this day, DeeDee’s the only person I know who enjoyed studying anatomy and physiology! During EMT class, DeeDee realized that, as a single mom and hairdresser, she could become a registered nurse.
While DeeDee studied for her RN degree, she realized her innate gift and talent in working with psych patients. DeeDee understood we all have moments when we lose control--have flashes of temper, irritation, or selfishness—that we later regret. DeeDee knew everyone had a breaking point. Most importantly, DeeDee had the ability to help others who believed unendurable dark despair would consume them forever. DeeDee’s reaction was never condemnation—no, DeeDee had the innate ability to help lonely souls realize that future days would be brighter.
I give DeeDee credit for the courage, pride, and hope she used in life. I won’t focus on DeeDee’s death. Instead, I choose to focus on DeeDee’s daily victories--victories gained through her kindness and thoughtfulness, through her love of family and friends, for animals and music, for all things beautiful, lovely, and honorable. I’ll remember the many days DeeDee was victorious in conquering overwhelming odds. I’ll remember not the years I thought DeeDee had left, but the intensity with which she lived the years she had!
DeeDee believed her greatest achievements were Sandy and Brittney—and oh, how she loved you, Sandy and Brittney! And my heart goes out to those DeeDee leaves behind, because I know that they suffer terribly.

To the family of DeeDee--
I want to send my deepest sympathies to you all and regret that I can not attend the services today since I will be working on the unit where I met and had the privilege of working with DeeDee at University Hospital and Clinics.
DeeDee was universally loved and admired here on B6/5 for her superb skills as a nurse and her warm caring for all she served. She always knew what to say and do with her patients and was a pleasure to work with because of that and also because she was just a lot of fun.
I last saw her about a year ago when she came in for training to do some part time work on the unit. I was so happy to have the chance to spend some time with her again.
And I admired that someone of my generation would take on the new computer system that I struggled with but got to learn through daily use. She seemed undaunted by the prospect of picking up the new technology that she would only be using now and then. Unfortunately, the hospital ceased its contract with outside agencies and our reunion with DeeDee was short lived.
We were all shocked to hear of DeeDee's untimely death and many stories of working with her years ago have been circulating on the unit. She was just the best. She loved her family and had such a big heart.
I'm so sorry for your loss and hope that your memories of this wonderful woman will be a comfort to you as you mourn. I'm so glad I had the chance to know and work with DeeDee.
With love, Mary Johnston
