Obituary

VERONA-Stan J. Stampfli, age 71, passed away courageously after a long illness on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Hospice Care Center in Fitchburg. He was born on April 29, 1938, in Mount Vernon, the son of Rudy and Lucy Stampfli. Stan was united in marriage to Jerri Shaffer in April of 1968. He owned and operated the Middleton Sport Bowl for 20 years and participated in 37 mens national bowling tournaments. Stan also owned and operated G & S Tile for many years and had 50 years in the Brick Layers Union. In recent years he drove cars for Zimbric of Madison. Stan was an avid bowler and loved golfing, playing cards and watching sports of any kind. He loved life and treasured most the time spent with his family and friends. Stan is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Jerri Stampfli, of Verona; a daughter, Sherri (Darin Johnson) Stampfli, of Verona; two sons, Jeff Stampfli and Dan (Sherry) Stampfli; two grandchildren, Danny and Bobby, all of Tampa, Florida; his mother, Lucy Stampfli; a brother, Bob Stampfli; four sisters, Margaret (Walt) Stucki, Esther Wagner, Ruth Wagner and Lucy (Jip) Kalscheur and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Rudy Stampfli, his mother-in-law, Katie Shaffer and two brothers-in-law, Bill and Ott Wagner. Funeral services will be held at ST. JAMES LUTHERAN CHURCH, 427 S. Main Street, Verona at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2010 with the Reverend Peter Narum presiding. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Madison. Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 1, 2010 at the GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave., Middleton and also on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Those wishing to express their sympathy with a memorial may wish to consider St. James Lutheran Church Roof Fund or the American Heart Association. Stan's mother, Lucy, was my father, Paul's, sister. Our condolences on your loss. Knowing Stan is in Heaven with God. We are both ill and will be unable to attend. My son Brett, brother Chuck, sister June will be attending.

Stan was a great friend,team mate, classmate, and army buddy. He was "one of the good ones" and I'll always cherish his memory. My deepest sympathy to his family.
