Mary Leota Joyce (Fleming) Phelan

Phelan, Mary Leota Joyce (Fleming)MONONA-Mary Leota Joyce (Fleming) Phelan, age 83, of Monona, died with her children at her side on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, at Waupaca Elder Care. She was born on Feb. 6, 1926, in Highland, the daughter of the late Edward and Marscleite Fleming. Mary was the second oldest of 11 children. She graduated from Highland High School and married the late Philip Phelan. Mary worked for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for 24 years and retired in 1991. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Diane Phelan of Waupaca; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Paul Dahl of Lodi; grandchildren, Katie (Mark) VanSomeren, Kelsey Phelan, Paul Michael Oliversen, and Amanda Oliversen; brothers, John and Luane Fleming, Bob Fleming, and Jim and Joan Fleming; sisters, Anne Krause, Sally and Richard Christenson, Margaret and Richard Kalscheur, and Susie Oehrlein; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her brothers, Doyle, Gene and Dean. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009.
