Obituary
Frisch, Josephine "Jo" "Josie"
MONONA-Josephine "Jo" "Josie" Frisch, age 83, went to heaven on Wednesday, Feb. 10. 2010, from her home in Monona, following a short illness. She was born on March 3, 1926, to Arthur and Catherine (Killeen) Gasser, in Carr Valley. Jo grew up on the family farm near Ironton. After high school, she worked for Badger Ordnance Works in Baraboo, earning enough money to attend beautician school. Jo later worked in a beauty shop in Sparta. In 1948 she moved to Madison and took a job at Celon Corp. Jo then worked at Oscar Mayer Corp. She met Joseph Andrew Frisch while attending dances at Turner Hall in downtown Madison. They married on April 26, 1952. Jo focused on raising their three children and caring for her family and home. She was a great cook and masterful pie maker. From their bountiful backyard gardens she preserved fruits and vegetables. Jo enjoyed the outdoors, boating, dancing, and spending time with her ever-growing family. She was selfless and giving to all. Jo volunteered for the St. Mary's Ladies Auxiliary, and at Port St. Vincent Shelter for 29 years. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Monona for 55 years, was an ordained Minister of Faith, and was active in their St. Anne's Society. Jo is survived by her husband of 57 years, Joe;children, Tom (Lori) Frisch, Diane Jawson, and Greg (Nancy Hastings) Frisch; grandchildren, Paul, Scott, Monica (fianc, Ryan Dubs), Andrea and Alyssa;great-grandchildren, Brian, Evan and Carson; sisters, Rosella Byrnes, Mary (Ken) Steinhofer, and Marleen Edell; and brother, William Gasser. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Catherine Gasser; sisters, Lucille Sosinsky and Bernice Gasser; and brother, James Gasser. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, with Father Kenneth Frisch presiding. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, and at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery, following the service. In lieu of flowers, Jo requested that memorials go to Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center, Port St. Vincent Shelter of Madison, or Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Liturgy Memorial Fund. We thought of you with love today, but that is nothing new. We thought about you yesterday and days before that too. We think of you in silence, we often speak your name. Now all we have is memories, and your picture in a frame. Your memory is our keepsake, with which we'll never part. God has you in his keeping; we have you in our heart.
