Obituary
Schmelzer II, Paul LouisMONONA - Paul Louis Schmelzer II, age 46, was taken home unexpectedly on Friday, Feb.19, 2010. Paul, a native Madisonian, was born on Oct. 2, 1963, to Ann L.(Hierlmeier) Schmelzer and Paul L. Schmelzer I. Paul married Nancy Noot on Valentine's Day in 1987. Together they have joyfully raised three children; Paul III (age 18), Susan (age 17), and Sydney (age 13), grandson, Carter (16 months). Paul and Nancy owned and operated The Paint Authority. He was a master at his craft. Paul was respected widely for his strong work ethic and was proud of what he was able to achieve through hard work. Paul loved sports and was an extraordinary athlete. He passed this talent onto his children and grandson. Some of his favorites included Tough Man contests and endless games of softball. Paul is survived by his wife; children; grandson; his dog, Blaze; mother, Ann Hierlmeier; brother, Tony; sister, Gina (Ron); uncles, Bernie (Denise) and Bill (Vivian) Schmelzer; and the many Hierlmeier aunts and uncles, Hank (Ginny), Joey (Dave), Larry (Judie), Glen (Ruth Ann), Shirley (Steve) and Patsy; plus an enormous number of cousins, nieces, and nephews. Paul adored his entire family. He relished his early years spent at Glen and Ann's (now the Nitty Gritty). He was preceded in death by his father, Paul I. A Celebration of Paul's Life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, from 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, an account has been established at Monona State Bank for the family in the name of Nancy Schmelzer. We will miss your selfless friendship and love which drew us all to you. Live, laugh, love, work and play HARD!

Paul,
you live on in your family who experienced true love from you. This is what gives them strength now as they miss your presence.
We all will miss you, but thank you for what you were to us here on earth.
Love,

Thanks for the memories, Paulie; from canoeing on the Cannon (and scurrying up the tree from a capsized canoe) to big bear hugs and good talks over sourdough pancakes and cinnamon rolls (no icing). We are so glad to have been part of your life. Love, Aunt Joey and Uncle Dave
