Berniece E. (Johnson) Tostrud

Tostrud, Berniece E. (Johnson) MADISON-Berniece E. (Johnson) Tostrud, age 84, formerly of Brooklyn/Osseo, passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2010, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. She was born on Nov. 1, 1925, the daughter of Ben and Cora (Ludwig) Johnson. Berniece married Melvin Tostrud on June 13, 1953, in LaCrosse. She graduated from Wisconsin State College, LaCrosse on June 6, 1954. Berniece enjoyed many years teaching school in Madison and Monona, and later in Texas. She loved animals and enjoyed riding horses. In her retirement, Berniece enjoyed many crafts, especially doll making. Survivors include two children, Deborah (Keith) Schoenfelt of Austin, Texas and Kevin (Kristine) Tostrud of Wisconsin Dells; two grandchildren of Austin, Texas, Aria (Jason) Kilpatrick and Corbett Schoenfelt; a sister, Charlotte (Morse) Loy of Mount Horeb; sisters-in-law, Marie Johnson of Reedsburg and Audrey Johnson of Platteville; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Cora Johnson; her brother, Kenneth Johnson; her nephew, Kurt Johnson; her brother, Doug Johnson and his wife, Anne Johnson; and her children's father, Melvin Tostrud of LaCrosse. Services will be held at BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 19, 2010, with the Rev. Sarah Harrold presiding.
