Obituary

MADISON-Eleanor P. (Spaeni) Knight, age 93, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2010. She was born on April 16, 1916, in Montello, the daughter of Christian and Mary (Westendorf) Doerschlag. Eleanor lived in Eagle River and then moved to Madison. She worked at F. W. Means Clean Towel Service and Oscar Mayer. Eleanor was united in marriage to John Jack Spaeni on Jan. 8, 1934. The two of them enjoyed singing and dancing. Jack preceded her in death in 1980. She later married LeRoy Pokey Knight on Jan. 12, 1985. Eleanor was a member of American Legion No. 501 Auxiliary and TOPS. She is survived by her husband, LeRoy Pokey Knight of Madison; four children, Darlene (Al) Frazier of Westport, John W. (Nancy) Spaeni of Madison, Sandra (Clinton) Vandall of Snohomish, Wash., and Timothy (Diana) Spaeni of DeForest; daughter-in-law, Carol Peters Spaeni of McFarland; step daughters, Connie Karls and Sandra Porter and their families; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Eleanor was preceded in death by her first husband, John Jack Spaeni; her son, Ted Spaeni; parents; four sisters; and a brother. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2010. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens.
