Berigan, Vercelia M. "Cele"
MONONA-Vercelia M. "Cele" Berigan, age 95, of Monona, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at HospiceCare Inc. She was born on Jan. 1, 1915, in Hillsboro, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Sebranek. Cele was the youngest of 10 children. She married Thomas Berigan on Oct. 19, 1943, in San Fernando, Calif. They had a military wedding in a 102 year old mission church. Cele worked as a hairstylist at Mifflin Beauty Salon and Yorkshire Beauty Salon for 47 years. She continued to style hair for her family until March 2010. Cele was a faithful member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was meticulous about her lawn. Cele enjoyed golfing, bowling in several leagues, dancing, and watching sports on television, especially the Cubs. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends. Recently, Cele spent her winters in Niceville, Fla. with Barb and John, where she made many new friends. Cele is survived by her daughter, Barbara Berigan (John) Palmer; niece, Kathy (Ron) Christianson, who was raised by Cele after Kathy\'s mother Georgia passed away; great-nephews, Craig (Leah) Christianson and Jay (Nicole) Christianson; great-great-nephews, Caden, Alexander and Evan Christianson; and many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1980; and her siblings, Anna Sebranek, Josephine McDonough, Mary Sebranek, Georgia Seery and John, Hank, Emil, Joe and Eduard Sebranek. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at noon on Saturday, May 1, 2010, with Father John Meinholz presiding. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Monona, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 30, 2010, and at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
