David Ray Niedfeldt

Niedfeldt, David Ray DEOCRAH, IOWA-David Ray Niedfeldt, age 61, of Decorah, Iowa, unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2010, in Madison.He was born on May 31, 1948, in La Crosse, the son of Rudolph and Evelyn (Pottratz) Niedfeldt.He graduated from Central High School in 1966.Following high school, Ray joined the United States Marine Corps serving two tours in Vietnam.He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Naval Unit Citation, Vietnamese Service Medal (with three stars) andthe Vietnamese Campaign Medal. Ray was honorably discharged in January 1971.David married and later divorced Connie Goodreau (Clements). He attended Western Wisconsin Technical College in 1974, earning an associates degree in biomedical electronics and recently received the International Certification of Biomedical Equipment Technician, the highest professional certification in his field. Over the years, David continued his educational pursuits achieving a bachelor of artsdegree from the University of Wisconsin-Madisonin 1999.He most recently worked for General Electric at the Winnishiek County Medical Center in Decorah, Iowaand was knownfor hisability to fix almost any electronic equipment.David was a camper and avid bicyclist, known to rideto work even in the nastiest ofweather.He enjoyed traveling and over the years, lived in Chicago, Seattle andAlbuquerque.Davidis survived bya son, Ahren Ray Niedfeldt of La Crosse; daughter,Becky (Ian)Hannah ofMount Horeb; grandsons, Torin and Griffin Hannah; and two aunts, Vernetta Johns of La Crosseand Irma Euler of West Salem. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Evelyn Niedfeldt. A visitation and prayer service will be held at ST. JOHNS UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 630 West Ave. South, La Crosse, on Saturday, May 1, 2010 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. The family is requesting that donations be made to Flying Horse Stable of La Crosse.
