Obituary
MADISON- Dorothy Arlene (Onsrud) Schuster, age 88, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at her home. She was born on Jan. 31, 1922, the third of seven children, born to John E. And Esther Onsrud. Dorothy started her education at age five, at a country school. She and her future husband, David, were graduates of Oregon High School in 1939. Dorothys professional career as a registered nurse spanned 37 years in acute care hospitals in Wisconsin and in Denver, Colorado. She and her husband enjoyed many travels, especially camping with their three sons throughout the United States and Canada. Dorothy was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Badgers, Brewers, Packers and high school basketball with its March Madness. She dedicated her life to helping others, including teaching English to foreign adults, assisting school children with reading and math, knitting caps and scarves for children, and volunteering at her church, the Senior Center and RSVP. An optimist by nature, Dorothy demonstrated standards for all who know her, of honesty, integrity, and a love of life. She is survived by her sons, Gary of Milwaukee and Phillip of Taunton, Mass.; granddaughter, Sarah Allen of Denver, Colo., and her children, Daylen and Savannah; grandson, Wade Schuster of Henderson, Nev., and his mother, Mary Schuster of Green Bay; and grandson, Zachary Schuster of Taunton, Mass. She is further survived by her sisters, Janet (Bob) Campbell, and Naomi (Clarence) Rockwell; brother, John (Mary) Onsrud, sister-in-law, Jane (Schuster) Lundey of Auburn, Ala, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, David, son, Paul, her parents, sisters, Eunice Hall and Murial Stoneman, and brother, Otis. A memorial service in Dorothys honor will be held at GOOD SHEPHERD LUTHERAN CHURCH, West Campus, 7291 County Hwy. PD, Verona, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2010 with Rev. Sheryl Erickson presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. No flowers please. Instead, expressions of caring may be directed to the Good Shepherd Food Pantry, the Salvation Army, or Disabled American Veterans. One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car you drove, or the sort of house you lived in. But, the world may be different because you were important in the life of a child. -Anon.

Our deepest sympathy and prayers to Dorothy's family from ours. Dorothy was such a sweet lady and especially helped me when my own mother passed away. I always enjoyed talking to her on the phone. My Dad is very sad to hear the news as well and sends his sympathy. Rest in Paradise!

Dear Schusters: I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your Mom. She was a wonderful person, full of life. My Mom, Addie Carlson, looked forward to her visits while she was in Florida, and then visiting her up in Madison. She will be missed. I always felt one of the blessings of our families where friends our parents had through church in Appleton, Wisconsin.
