Hubanks, Buddy "Bud" Lee Alvin MADISON-Buddy "Bud" Lee Alvin Hubanks, passed away Friday, June 25, 2010. Bud was born July 4, 1930 in Madison and would have celebrated his 80th birthday this coming Fourth of July. He spent many hours in retirement tracing his geneology; learning about his family's past and published a detailed record of his family's heritage. He lived his early years in Boscobel, Wisc., where he graduated from high school. He attended both Ripon College and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. On Oct. 21, 1950 he married Anita King. They would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this year. Bud enlisted in the Navy in 1950 and served in Norfolk, VA. attaining the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class Machine Accountant. While in the Navy he entered the growing new field of computer technology becoming one of the first computer operators for Commander, Service Forces, Atlantic Fleet (COMSERVLANT). He left the Navy in 1954 to work for his father in Boscobel for 12 years. In 1966, Bud and Anita moved their family to Madison where he went to work for Ray-O-Vac. Just like he did in the Navy, Bud helped transition Ray-O-Vac into the computer age by becoming their first computer operator. Next, Bud was hired as a computer manager for Alexander Grant & Company where he was employed until 1985. He then became a self-employed computer consultant and worked with American Health & Safety for five years until retirement. Bud is survived by his wife Anita, three sons, and one daughter: Mark (Sue Ann) DeForest; Bruce (Lee Ann) Plano, TX; Greg (Sue) Prairie du Sac; and Barbara ( Reed) Bearden, Marietta, GA; four grandchildren; Josh (Kaylie) Hubanks; Hilary and Hannah Hubanks; Lauren Bearden; a step-granddaughter, Jennica Stein; two sisters, Lucretia (Arnold) Harris, Boscobel; Marlene (Vern) Trecek, Portage; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lee and Ruby Hubanks and an infant sister Bonnie Mae. Bud was not just a baseball fan; he was an avid Chicago Cubs fan his entire life. He loved sports and played football , basketball, and baseball in high school and college. Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at LAKE EDGE LUTHERAN CHURCH with the Rev. Shirley Funk presiding. Memorial visit will be held on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Memorials may be made to Lake Edge Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.
