John A. Gundlach Sr.

Gundlach, John A. Sr. MADISON-John A. Gundlach Sr., age 68, went to be with his heavenly Father, on Sunday morning, Aug. 1, 2010, at St. Marys Hospital surrounded by his family. John was born to Frank and Bernice (Rose) Gundlach, on Feb. 6, 1942, in Spring Green township near Arena. He grew in stature, wisdom and mischief with his eight siblings in the Spring Green/Arena area, developing a love for hunting, fishing and the peaceful beauty of the outdoors. John lived in the Madison area for most of his adult life. He worked for the University of Wisconsin Zoology Research Department for 30 years, retiring at the age of 50. John is survived by his wife of 35 years, Melissa; his children, Tammy Harjung (Keith Kohlmeyer) of Baraboo, Jamie Gundlach and John A. Gundlach Jr., both of Madison, Shawn (Wendy) Gundlach of Arlington, Robert Niemisto (Kris Myrland ) of Endeavor, Tami Niemisto and Sara (Andrey) Hansboro, both of Madison; 18 grandchildren, Jesica, Wesley, Holly, Dustin, Eric, Megan, Monica, Samantha, Sophie, Courtney, Johnathan, Brittney, Nichole, Antonio, Austin, Hannah, Lilly and J.J., two great-grandchildren, William and Sam; and seven siblings, Robert (Pat) Gundlach, Florence Heiser, Mary Weyerman, Frankie Gundlach, Joe Gundlach, Howard Gundlach and Bernice (Darrell) Dickinson; and former wife and mother of four of his children, Tonee Edwards. John will also be missed by many family members and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Joseph Falkowski in 2005; nephew, Christopher Dickinson in 2005; sister, Shirley Nachreiner; three brothers-in-law, Buck Heiser, Kenneth Weyerman and Fritz Nachreiner; special uncle, Jay Rose; and cousin, Terry Rose. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave, Madison, at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010, with Monsignor Michael Hippee presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 3 p.m. until the time of service. Visitation: Visitation will be at the church from 3 p.m. until the time of service. Service: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave, Madison, at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010, with Monsignor Michael Hippee presiding.
