MADISON-Berneice Rudella Gerber Schulenburg, age 81, of Madison, died peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, surrounded by family, at HospiceCare in Fitchburg.
She was born on Jan.18, 1929, in Blue Mounds Township, the middle child of 11 children of Rudolf and Helena (Butteris) Gerber. She married Vincent William Schulenburg on Nov. 7, 1946, in Cross Plains. Berneice lived in Prairie du Sac and Madison, where she worked as a chef in many area restaurants, including Namios Supper Club, and later became a clerical supervisor for the State of Wisconsin, eventually retiring after serving many years. She was a member of VFW Post 8483, American Legion Post 57 and Zion Lutheran Church, Madison. Her faith was very strong.
Berneice is survived by her six children, Audrey Jensen Schulenburg of Madison, Candice (Robert) Pharo of Verona, Alan of Madison, Michael of Black River Falls, Sherry (Craig) Barnsley of Madison, and Patty (Brian) Pranke of Madison; grandchildren, Robin (Timothy Duerst) Pharo of Barneveld, Kristine (Raymond Sr.) Reine of Sun Prairie, Stacy (Eric) Sutton of McFarland, and Sarah and Allison Barnsley of Madison; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Keegan and Riannon Jensen, Adriana, Jenna and Raymond Jr. Reine, and Zander Duerst; brothers, George (Alleda) Gerber of Belleville and Norman (Margit) Gerber of Stoughton; sisters, Jan Perry Olday of Verona, Frances Trainor of Mount Horeb, and Shirley (Harry) Maier of Portage; brothers-in-law, Marion "Bud" King of Belleville and Lester (Theresa) Schulenburg of Sauk City; sisters-in-law, Velma Hohn of Madison and Ruth Gerber of California; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded indeath by her husband, Vincent William; her parents, Rudolf and Helena (Butteris) Gerber; grandson, Aaron Michael Jensen; brothers, Robert and Joseph Gerber; and sisters, Elizabeth (Betty) Denner Singleton, Mary Ann Olstad King and Alice Redepenning.
Funeral services will be held at ZION EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2165 Linden Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, with the Rev. Patrick Siegler presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held atGUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive,Madison,from 1p.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010, and at thechurch from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. A special thank you to Hospice for their amazing care of our Mother.
Our Mother thoroughly loved and enjoyed spending time playing cards with her father and many siblings. These gatherings gave us, her children, special "wild" times with our numerous cousins which we will always cherish and remember. Thanks Mom, know you are loved! "Mom, Mother, Grandma, Granny, we know you want each of us to remember our strength."

Visitation will be held atGUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive,Madison,from 1p.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010, and at thechurch from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.

I will truly miss my grandmother. One little poem my grandma taught me was "Had a little monkey took him to the country, feed him ginger bread along came a choo-choo knocked out his koo-koo. now my monkey's dead."
