Huettl, Joyce Louise (Hosch) MADISON-Joyce Louise (Hosch) Huettl passed away on Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, at 11 p.m., in the presence of her family at the HospiceCare Center, Fitchburg, following a four year struggle with multiple myeloma. Joyce was born in Dubuque, Iowa, on Oct. 2, 1950, to George and Lois (White) Hosch. Joyce was the sister to two younger brothers, Earl and Gene Hosch. She grew up on a farm in New Vienna, Iowa, attended school at St. Boniface grade school, and graduated valedictorian from Beckman High School class of 1968. She received her degree in nursing from Mary Crest College in Davenport, Iowa. She moved to Madison, where she began work at the UW Hospital as an registered nurse in the kidney transplant unit, and later went to work at the American Red Cross Blood Center in Madison, where she has held various positions for the past 37 years. She was extremely dedicated to her work advocating blood donation and CPR training. Joyce married Peter Huettl on May 22, 1976, at St. Boniface in New Vienna, Iowa. Joyce and her husband Peter moved from Madison to Oregon, where they raised their three boys. She was a dedicated mom who was involved in her sons\' school, St. James School in Madison, including volunteer school nurse, playground monitor, librarian, field trip chaperone, and sport activities including soccer and basketball practices, games, and tournaments for all three boys. She was involved with the Family Support and Resource Center that maintains relationships with families who have disabled children. She also served at Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church in Oregon, as a catechist and Eucharistic minister. Joyce enjoyed kayaking, biking, sewing, cooking, fishing and vacationing with family throughout the country. She also loved growing vegetable and flower gardens, reading novels, and organizing an abundance of family photos. Joyce is survived by her husband, Peter; and sons, Nick, Paul and Phil. She was preceded in death by her father, George. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1905 W. Beltline Highway, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, with Monsignor Thomas Baxter presiding. Inurnment will be at St. Marys Cemetery, Oregon. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL HOME, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Joyce and her family wish to thank all the wonderful and dedicated caregivers associated with St. Mary\'s/Dean, UW Hospital and Clinics, and Anderson Hospice Center. Special thanks also to St. Joseph/St. James and Holy Mother of Consolation parish families and Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa for their prayers and love. Joyce and her family would also like to thank all of the friends and family that have shared their time, talents and love especially during the past four years. God bless you all. Pete and family, It was sad news to hear of Joyce's passing. She was a great high school friend, and I regret not keeping connected with her.
