Obituary
MADISON - Carol Jean (Lamb) Johnson, age 71, died peacefully Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, surrounded by her family, at Meriter Hospital after a long battle with lung disease. The oldest of three children, she was born in Des Moines, Iowa, to Max and Mildred (Gayer) Lamb. "Lil Lamb" graduated from North High, in 1957, and from Drake University, in 1961. She taught kindergarten in Des Moines, Iowa for two years before moving to Madison and teaching first grade at Elvehjem Elementary. She met Walter Joseph Johnson in 1966, and they married in 1967. Carol raised three children. She tutored many elementary children until her own children were grown. She was a substitute teacher at several Madison schools, including Leopold Elementary, until her retirement just two years ago. Carol loved gardening, classical music, and attending plays or concerts at the Overture Center and American Players Theatre. Battle Lake, Minn., was her favorite summer get-away. She is survived by daughters, Anne (Cassens) and Lisa (Richmond); son, Michael; grandchildren, Justin, Alyssa, and Benjamin; brothers, Mark and Jim; and numerous nieces and nephews.A Mass of Christian Burialwill be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 17, 2010 with Father Kent Schmitt presiding. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Monona from 5 until 8 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, and also at the church on Friday, Sept. 17, 2010 starting at 10 a.m. Memorials may be made to Meriter Hospital Foundation or the American Lung Association.
