Obituary

TOWN OF MIDDLETON-Lynn K. "Pop" Brassington, 84, died Tuesday, October 26, 2010, after a brief illness. He was born October 2,1926, the youngest of ten raised by William and Athol (Cross) Brassington. Known as "Babe" by his siblings-even into his 80s- he was "Pop" to the rest of the family. Lynn was a lifelong area resident, interrupted only by his service in the US Navy during WWII. Only 15 when Pearl Harbor was attacked, Lynn enlisted at the earliest age possible and served proudly on the aircraft carrier USS Wasp. After the war he married Dorothy Anderson and they raised four children of their own. Lynn was a trucker for Oscar Mayer for over forty years. He loved Packer football and became a NASCAR fan after driving race cars locally in the 1950s. He lived the second half of his life in the house he built on the land of the original family farm. Lynn is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 63 years, sons, Randy (Ceil), Mike, Dave (Jan) and daughter Sue (Carl) Gitchel; grandchildren Sheri (Terry) Biddick, Wendy (Rod) Cupp, Garrett Helmke and Zach Brassington; great-grandchildren Byrce and Blake Biddick, Marina and Presley Cupp. He is also survived by brother Marion "Bud" (Arlene) Brassington and sister Avis Frank. A Memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL & CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave, Middleton at Noon on Saturday, October 30, 2010. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:30 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. The family wishes to extend deepest heartfelt thanks to the SICU doctors and staff who cared for Lynn at the VA Hospital through Lynn's final illness. Their unequaled care and emotional involvement went far beyond their professional duties and our highest expectations. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to donate directly to the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital, which can be done by contacting their Community Relations Service at 608-280-7030. We're so very sorry for your loss; Mr. Brassington was such a warm, sweet and caring man who was always so kind to our family. I know he'll be deeply missed, but may you find comfort in your wonderful memories of him. We can't be there in person, but we're keeping all of you in our thoughts and prayers.
