Dorothy A. LaMar

FLAGMadison-On November 10, 2010, Dorothy A. LaMar, 86, "went home to the Lord," surrounded by her family, after a brief stay at the Hospice Center in Fitchburg. She was born on June 2, 1924, in Baraboo, the daughter of Lillian Jessie Turner and Clifford Marion LaMar. After graduating from Baraboo High School in 1942, she joined the U.S. Army, working in hospital services until her honorable discharge in 1946. She worked as a bookkeeper for several private firms in Baraboo and Portage, and the State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation. She loved camping, travel, Devil's Lake State Park, the color blue, and crafts of every kind. She sewed, quilted, stamped, beaded, made cards, and brightened the lives of veterans and senior citizens, dressed as "Lady Blue the clown". She is survived by her children: Eileen Hirsch (Bob Anderson) of Madison; Joan "Jesi" Hirsch (partner Kathy Mathes) of Madison; Russ Hirsch (Vicky Rabow) of Los Angeles. She loved her grandchildren, Matthew Hirsch (Katie), Elise and Erica Andersen, and Madelyn and Morgan Hirsch. Her great-grandchild, Sophia Hirsch, brought her great joy. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Dean LaMar (Donna) and nieces and nephews. She was thankful for the fellowship and prayers of members of the High Point Church, her friends at Rosewood Villas, her long-time friends in Baraboo, and the loving care of her U.W. Home Health Team.She was preceded in death by her parents. A memorial service will be held at HIGH POINT CHRISTIAN CHURCH, 7702 Old Sauk Road, Madison, on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Bill Lerch, Jr. presiding. Burial with military rites will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Baraboo at 2:00 p.m. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m until 11:00 a.m. at the church on Saturday.
