Genevieve M. 'Gene' Zannacker

Zannacker, Genevieve M. GeneMadison - Genevieve M. Gene Zannacker age 95, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2010 at the Morrow Memorial Home in Sparta. She was born on May 12, 1915, the daughter of Edward and Sallie (Niemerowicz) Powalisz in Sparta. Gene was united in marriage to Gordon Zannacker on July 9, 1936. They began their life in Manitowoc. In 1946, they moved to Beaver Dam, where Gene and Gordon opened Gordon Cleaners. In 1966, they moved to Madison where they became active members of St. Peter Catholic Church. Gene was an accomplished seamstress and an avid card player. During her stay at the Morrow Memorial Home in Sparta, she was crowned Queen of Hearts and enjoyed every minute of the special reign. Gene enjoyed social outings and loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Gene) Urso of Monona and Bonnie (David Pat) Vandervest of Sparta; four grandchildren, Tony Urso, Nichole Urso, Debbie (Tom) Tessman, Vickie (John) Newlun; 8 great grandchildren, Miranda, Josh and Jordan Newlun, Dominic and Giovanni Urso, Shayla and Dusty Tessman and Meghan (Dale) Zeugner; great-great-grandchild, Aiden Zeugner and brother, Gordon Powalisz. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon on May 2, 1998; sister, Lorraine Nischan and brothers, John and Edward Powalisz. A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Ave, Madison with Monsignor Charles Schluter presiding. Inurnment will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park.
