Obituary
MADISON- Sanford B. Anderson "Sandy", age 89, passed away on Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at St. Marys Hospital. He was born on June 26, 1921, in Deerfield, the son of Sjuer and Matilda (Hildestad) Anderson. Sandy was a 1939 graduate of Madison East High School. In 1942, he joined the U.S. Navy. In World War II, he served as a machinists mate at the Jacksonville N.A.S. After leaving the military he returned to Madison and worked for a brief time at Gisholt Machinery Works. In 1946, he started working for UW-Madison biochemistry as an instrument maker and ran the machine shop. He participated in early D.N.A. testing at the UW-Madison. Sandy worked at the UW-Madison for 39 years and met many life long friends. He was a member of the Kayra club, East Side Businessmens, and Sons of Norway. He enjoyed playing cards, making a variety of things, and was a garage sale enthusiast. Sandy was very proud of his Norwegian heritage, and was a lover of Lutefisk. He genuinely loved people and always had a wonderful outlook on life. Everyone that ever met him knew this, by his effect on them. Sandy is survived by his children, Jim (Doris) and Peggy (Greg) Ptaszynski; grandchildren, Samantha, Matthew, Jessica, Josh (Shawn), and Nick; step-children, Sharon Bahl, Trevor Smith, Mary (Dave) Sipe, Chris, Lisa, and Tom Lawry; nieces, Natalie (Keith) Yelinek and Mary Connery; and nephews, John (Bonnie) Verberkmoes, Ron and Tom Vetter. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Georgianna (Vetter) and Nora (Berggren); and special friend, Betty Martig. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, with Monsignor Doug Dushack presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday.
