Joan Gefke

Joan was a great lady, enjoyed our many conversations with her. I, Darlene, being on the Village Board had many chats with her. She will be greatly missed. Our deepest sympathy to the family and relatives of hers. Our downtown historical will truly miss all her work and concerns about it. It was a pledger to know her.

As an employee of the Wisconsin Historical Society in the Burial Sites Preservation Program, I met Joan when I first moved here in the early 90s; she was an avid historian and genealogist who always was eager to get more work done for the Oregon Historical Society. My condolences to her whole family.

Joan was an inspiration to anyone who had the opportunity to meet her. Her death is a great loss to the community. Joan's significant contributions will be included in the Oregon Area Community Book Project's Blog (now) and Book (photos, remembrances, essays, and other info, in the future, to be submitted by September 2011).
