Obituary
Vick, Mildred E. "Milly"
MONONA-Mildred E. "Milly" Vick, age 94, of Monona, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, at Belmont Nursing and Rehab Center due to complications of Alzheimer's disease. Milly was born on July 14, 1916, in Stoughton, the daughter of Marthinus and Magna (Aasheim) Sather. Milly's life began on a farm in Oregon. She had always enjoyed business courses at Oregon High School, so upon graduation in 1934, she enrolled at Madison Business College. Her course of study was primarily bookkeeping and accounting. This first step really steered Milly to the business world. Milly often admitted that her original professional intent had been nursing as a career but later had no regrets. Milly was first employed by Madison's Rayovac directly from school. On July 3, 1941, in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Hazel (Lunde), Milly married Walter B. Vick in Stoughton. On Sept. 18, 1942, Milly gave birth to a son, John. At that time, Milly was enjoying her accounting position at Clark's clothing store on State St., but left to take time to raise John. Madison Bank and Trust recruited Milly as a teller in 1955. Through the years, Milly progressed to the position of customer service administrator, and was fully knowledgeable of every savings program and services available. Milly worked for many years in the lobby, providing service not only in savings, but other areas of operation. Milly often commented, "What I really enjoy is the individual customer contact and close rapport I have developed with so many bank customers." Milly retired from her position as customer service administrator as of December 1981. Milly was an avid bowler in Madison and became a member of the 600 club in 1968. She loved gardening, nurturing her roses, attending the University of Wisconsin men's basketball and football games and her gambling trips to Arizona, Illinois, Iowa, Las Vegas, Laughlin, Minnesota, and all of the Wisconsin Indian casinos. On July 16, 2006, 67 relatives and friends attended "A Picnic in the Park" at the Henry Vilas Zoo shelter in Madison to celebrate Milly's 90th birthday and she and Wally's 65th wedding anniversary. Milly is survived by a son, John of Baraboo; granddaughter, Melissa (Greg) Brantner of Mondovi; great-granddaughter, Caitlin Brantner of Mondovi; sister, Hazel (Lunde) of Stoughton; and several nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death in September 2007 by her husband, Wally. At Milly's request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Private burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park. A special thank you to Milly's exceptional caregivers at Skaalen Home Assisted Living of Stoughton, Harmony of Madison Assisted Living, Reynold's Home Assisted Living of Monona, Belmont Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center of Madison and Southern Care Hospice. A special thank you to God, aunt Hazel, cousin Kathleen, Lillian, Pauline and Sharon for taking such good care of John. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's & Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin, 517 N. Segoe Road, No. 301, Madison, WI 53705, to further research studies.

Hi, 94 is a long life. We're sorry that she wasn't able to enjoy the last few years. Losing a mom makes one an Orphan. We know that is sometimes hard to get ones mind around. Don't know when you will see this- today is Friday.
We are headed out for bkfst - at the hospital. We have a couple of freebies.
Talk to you later. Bob and Mary-Jane
