Walter Erwin Gilomen Jr.

Gilomen,Walter E. Jr. LAND OLAKES/MADISON - Walter E. Gilomen, Jr., age 81, of Land OLakes, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, surrounded by his family, in Springfield, Mo. He was born on July 19, 1929, in Madison, the son of Walter E. and Martha (Schneider) Gilomen. Walter married Joan Helminski and together they had four children. He served in the US Airforce during the Korean War and was stationed in Okinawa. Walter was involved in the Family business, Gilomen Truck and Equipment. He went on to work in Minneapolis for Mack Trucks. In 1971, he started his own dealership, Ozark Mack Trucks, in Springfield, Mo., and then in 1978 he started Gilomen Buick AMC, Jeep in Longmont, Co. After years of operating his business, he retired. During his retirement, he enjoyed his cottage in Northern Wisconsin. Walter also enjoyed traveling with his companion, Betty OConnor. He and Betty traveled extensively throughout the U.S. during their 25 years together. Walter was very adventurous, he enjoyed all outdoor activities. He is survived by his son, William of Madison, daughter, Connie (Larry) Fass of Middleton; and sons, Bruce and Alan of Springfield, Mo.; grandchildren, Jeremy Gilomen, Stefanie (Skylar) Primm, and Jeff and Brian Fass all of Madison; brothers, Tom (Laurie) and Mike (Karen); sister, Dianne (John) Geworskey; and sister-in-law, Char Gilomen; daughter-in- law, Rita Anderson of Tucson, Az. He leaves behind many extended relatives. Walter was preceded in death by his former wife, Joan; brother, Bob; companion, Betty OConnor; and sister-in-law, Myrna Gilomen. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, and from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
