Obituary

MADISON - Donald James Angus, age 89, of Madison, passed away peacefully at home, on Monday, Jan. 31, 2011. He was born on March 3, 1921, in Madison, the son of James and Martha (Grabo) Angus. Donald was a graduate of East High School. After high school, Donald joined the Army National Guard and later bravely served his country during WWII serving in the Pacific theater with the 32nd Infantry Division. After returning to Madison, Donald began working at Ohmeda Medical Equipment in the paint shop. Donald remained in the Army National Guard and retired as a Master Sergeant. It was his passion to continue his meetings with his fellow comrades from the war and tell war stories. Donald enjoyed reading, fishing, casino bus trips and watching the Green Bay Packers. Donald was a member of Zion Church ELCA. He is survived by his brother, Robert (Rosalie) Angus; nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Donald left us to join his very special friend of 50 years, Clara Braun, who passed away in 2004; his parents; sister, Helen; and brother, Marlin. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON FUNERAL HOME 5203 Monona Drive Madison, at 1:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors conducted. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church. Cemetery: Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors conducted. Visitation: Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. Service: Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON FUNERAL HOME 5203 Monona Drive Madison, at 1:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011.

If we cannot do him honor While he's here to hear the praise, Then at least let's give him homage At the ending of his days. Perhaps just a simple headline In the paper that might say: "OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING, A SOLDIER DIED TODAY."

Don went with my Aunt Clara Braun for at least 50 years. In that time he was alomost an uncle to a lot of Clara's nephews. Don and Clara took my brother Greag and I and cousins Fred and Jim to a couple of the old Milw. Braves games in the 50's and dearly 60's. It was great to be able to pay them back by taking them to Henery Aaron night in Milw. when Aaron was a Brewer for a year or so. I haven't seen or spoken to Don since Clara's funeral but have thought of him often. Sad to read of his passing and know that he and Clara have a lot of catching up to do. What a great gentleman and friend. He will be greatly missed. Leo............
