Obituary

FITCHBURG- Loma M. Klossner, age 93, of Fitchburg, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011. She was born on Feb. 27, 1917 to Walter and Mae Knapp in the Town of Alto, Fond du Lac County. She graduated from Brandon High School, and at age 16, graduated from Dodge County Normal School. After graduation, she taught in a one-room schoolhouse in the Town of Fairwater. She moved to Madison and graduated with a degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin in 1939. She married Albert W. Klossner on Aug. 22, 1942, in Arkansas while Al was stationed there in the U.S. Army. They settled in Madison after his discharge in 1945. Loma was actively involved in the lives of her children through various PTAs, Cub Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts and in the life of her church locally and regionally. She will be best remembered for her career with Rennebohm Drug Stores/ Walgreens, providing the food service training and retiring as the companys Personnel Director. After her retirement, Loma dedicated her life to the service of others, volunteering extended periods of time with Memorial United Church of Christ, Lakeland College Church Relations Office and various settings of Habitat for Humanity International. It was with Habitat that she gave long-term service at the International Office in Americus, GA, in Sumter, S.C. following Hurricane Hugo, the Jimmy Carter Blitz Build in Milwaukee, and in Chinyanya, Zambia, Africa and more than a decade with an annual Madison work camp in Putnam County, Florida. She was active with Habitat for Humanity of Dane County as their historian. Loma is survived by her children, Tom and Charlene Klossner of Sun Prairie, Karen Demaree of Platteville, Rev. Bill and Chris Klossner of Punta Gorda, Florida and Jeff and Pat Klossner of New Glarus; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce and Donald Peterman of Palatka, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; parents; and brother, L. Gordon Knapp. A service of celebration of her life will be held at MEMORIAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 5705 Lacy Road, Fitchburg, at 2 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, with the Rev. Phil Haslanger officiating. The family will greet people at the church from noon until the time of service on Saturday. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to Memorial UCC or Habitat for Humanity of Dane County, P.O. Box 258128, Madison, WI 53725-8128.
