Dear Lapinsksi's:
I was so sorry to hear of Mrs. Lapinski's passing and not be able to offer my condolences in person (due to walking pneumonia). I have so many happy childhood memories, when Patty and I were close friends, hanging out at your home - trying to stay out of Joe's way - who turned out to be a really good guy. No one appreciates brothers when they're young. Mrs. Lapinski was always busy doing something. I don't ever remember her sitting down and relaxing. Pat, did you ever tell your mom about how when I'd stay overnight and we slept in the basement, we'd get a jar of pickles and eat the whole thing, bury the dill and other spices in the trash, then wash out the jar and put it back with the other clean jars so she wouldn't know we had eaten any. She made the best dill pickles I've ever eaten. I hope someone in your family got her recipe.
I'll never think about our Dawes Street neighborhood without thinking of Mrs. Lapinski. She was strict, but she was kind, warm, compassionate, and as we got older, found out she had a great sense of humor. There aren't any words I can say that will help you miss her less, but many people are missing her too. I hope that brings some comfort.
