Obituary

FITCHBURG- Larry Rowley, age 96, died peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011 at the HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg. He was born at home in Waunakee to Roy C. and Elizabeth B. (Dominie) Rowley, on Oct. 1, 1914. Larry served in the CCC Corp in Marengo for 21 months in the mid-1930\'s. On Nov. 11, 1939, he married Marion Gundlach in Madison and lived in the home they built in 1941 on Syene Road in Fitchburg. In this home, they raised five boys and Larry continued to live there until 2003. Larry worked for Cuna Credit Union for many years and was the chairman for the Town of Fitchburgs Fourth of July Festival. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, card playing and cribbage. Larry was rated in the top ten cribbage players in the United States a few years back. Larry loved playing cards at Stan Wrights garage with all this friends. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 70 years. Larry was a member of Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church, where he cleaned the church and school. He did many other part time jobs in his life. In all he did, he took pride in his work, yet was pretty humble. Larry would call an ace an ace and a spade a spade. He is survived by his five sons, Chuck (Kathleen) of Stoughton, Ted (Barbara) of Oregon, John (Jennifer) of Verona, David of Stoughton and Gary (Laurie) of Blue Mounds; ten grandchildren, Marcia (Tom) Stehr, Craig (Libby) Rowley, Michelle (Kevin Vechinsky) Herrmann-Vechinsky, Maria (Brian) Lamboley, Julie (Peter) Schmitt, Jason Rowley, Kayla and Shane Rowley and Ben and Lydia Rowley; sixteen great- grandchildren; two sisters, Cyrene Newberry of Florida and Suzanne Thomas of Waunakee; cousin, Winnie Shea of Madison; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marion; one granddaughter, Anne Marie Rowley; brothers, Jonas, Charles, Gilbert; and sister, Elizabeth Malloff. A Mass of Christian Burial be held at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 651 N. Main Street, Oregon, at 11 a.m., on Thursday, March 3, 2011, with Father Gary Wankerl presiding. Burial will follow at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 1150 Park Street, Oregon from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3, 2011 and also at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday. He may not have told you, but he loved you all! Cemetery: Burial will follow at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery. Visitation: Visitation will be at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 1150 Park Street, Oregon from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3, 2011 and also at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday.
