MIDDLETON - Edna S. (Hinrichs) Thew, age 92, of Middleton, passed away peacefully on Saturday April 9, 2011 at Oakwood Lutheran Homes - West in Madison. She was born February 21, 1919 in Pingree, ND, the daughter of Ervin and Alma (Schroeder) Jensen. She moved to the Middleton area with her family at about the age of 6 years and continued to live, raise a family, and then retire there until moving to Oakwood in the fall of 2001. Ted preceded her in death in 2001.Edna has been a lifelong member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Middleton. Although in recent years she attended church at Oakwood Lutheran Homes with only occasional visits to St. Luke's, being a member all of her life at St. Luke's was something she was very proud of. Her seven children were baptized, confirmed, and married at this church.Edna was a devoted mother who loved and cared about all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her interests involved doing things for the family. She loved to vegetable garden and preserve what she harvested. Most of all, she loved to share the fruits of her labors with her family. Nature's beauty was never lost to Edna and she had a real knack for growing beautiful flowers. Until her very last days she loved, enjoyed, and appreciated being surrounded by flowers. Edna was a one of a kind baker. Her breads and pastries were perfection both in appearance and taste. Once again, nothing gave her greater pleasure than to share these delights with her loved ones. It was her joy to prepare and serve wonderful dinners. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mother's Day, and her birthday were always opportunities for her to express her love to her family by sharing a wonderful meal. Edna leaves behind to cherish her memory five children; Roger (Pat) Hinrichs of Chetek, Harriet (Arnold) Meier of Cherry Valley, IL, Judy (Richard) Schwenn of Verona, Joseph Hinrichs of Middleton and Linda (James) Lehrmann of Racine; 18 grandchildren, many great grandchildren all of whom she loved dearly. Two sisters, Olga Ascher and Lucille Dunse who were always there for her, and many nieces, nephews and friends also survive her.In addition to her parents and her husbands, Edna was welcomed into eternal life by several precious family members who preceded her in death including her daughter Karen Dammen, her son LaVern Hinrichs, and her daughter-in-law Betty Hinrichs. Was only able to visit Edna a few times but she was always gracious and kind and an excellent hostess. Have fond memories of her & Ted (and Greataunt Alma while she was living with them in Middleton). My condolences to her family.
