Mary Alyce (O’Hern) Rhode

MADISON-Mary Alyce (OHern) Rhode passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2011. She was born on May 13, 1944, in Beaver Dam, to James and Ila OHern of Waupun. Mary attended Waupun High School and graduated from UW-Oshkosh where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. Mary enjoyed her three years of teaching second grade in the Waupun School District and her many years of teaching in the primary grades for the Madison Metropolitan School District. She is survived by her sisters, Kathy (William) Bollom of Oshkosh, and Patricia Beckwith of Augusta, Ga; brother-in-law, Gary Gailbreath of Auburn, Calif; nine nieces and nephews and their children; and many cousins. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Judith Gailbreath; and brother-in-law, Dr. Merton Beckwith. Funeral services will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield Dr., Monona, at noon, on Monday, May 2, 2011, with Father Bart Timmerman presiding. Private burial will be at Mt. Calvary in Waupun. Visitation will be at the church on Monday, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School, 4913 Schofield Dr., Monona, WI, 53716 or Bethel Food Pantry, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, WI 53703.
