Obituary

MADISON-Francis R. "Frank" Lewandowski, age 91 and a half, of Madison, peacefully left this world in the arms of his loving family and into the arms of the Lord. He was born on Dec. 15, 1919, in Ashland, the son of Michael and Gladys (Trottier) Lewandowski. Frank grew up in Ashland, one of eight children, during the Great Depression and helped his family by working in the CCCs, where he helped to build Pattison State Park. During World War II he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a member of the Glider Infantry. Frank was united in marriage to Betty Gahan on June 17, 1950 and together they raised five children. Frank worked for Wisconsin Power & Light for 32 years. During retirement he was dedicated to helping others and volunteered for many organizations. Frank was a charter member of St. Dennis Catholic Church, as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus, and VFW Post 7591. He enjoyed the outdoors, was a voracious reader, and loved spending time with his family. Frank will be remembered for his kindness, thriftiness, wisdom and his integrity. Frank is survived by his daughters, Margaret (Jerry) McCann and Mary Steele (Tom Dover); sons, Michael (Barbara) and Paul; grandchildren, Kelly (Kurt Hellman) McCann, Megan McCann, Sunny (Dominic) Ferraro, and Lucas (Holly) Steele; great-grandchildren, Dominic and Raya Ferraro, Anthony and Rustin Steele; and dear neighbor, Reed Kolman. He also leaves behind many loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, and son, Tom. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Rd., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2011, with Father Kent Schmitt presiding. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the church from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2011, and on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Well, Frank, you are now with God, Betty and the angels. Thanks for all your hard work at St. Dennis - we used to have very interesting committee meetings! You've lived a marvelous life and will be missed. My condolences to your family as well.

So sorry to read about the death of Frank. He was a "pillar of faith" at St. Dennis. I cannot make the funeral on Friday,however I am going to try to get to the visitation. Please accept my condolances and know of my prayers during this time. Peace be with you.
