June Grace Hindmarsh Knapp

MADISON- June Grace Hindmarsh Knapp, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Belmont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Madison. She was born on July 14, 1924 in Karaka, Papakura Auckland, New Zealand, the daughter of Cyril F. and Doris P. Hindmarsh. During the Pacific War of World War II, June met Dale Knapp. Dale had been injured twice during the conflict and June nursed him back to health both times. Following the war, June joined Dale in Bloomington where they were united in marriage. Together the couple raised seven children. In the summer of 1968, the family moved from the Lancaster area to Madison. June worked many years at the Lancaster Methodist Hospital, before joining Madison Methodist Hospital, where she helped many patients get back on their feet. After retiring, June helped many working families by babysitting their little ones. She was an avid gardener, growing the most beautiful flowers for all to enjoy. June leave behind her loving and devoted husband, Dale; five children, Kathleen of Madison, Allen of Madison, Ken (Mary) of Madison, Roger (Jan) of Columbus and David (Kim) of Rio; eight siblings, Joyce, Kingston, Leoni, Max, Delores, Paula, Pam and Ann, all of New Zealand; 12 grandchildren, Kristine (Kent) Buehler, Shane (Erin) Knapp, Brian Curtis, Amber Barmore, Shalana Knapp, Alicia Knapp, Nikole Curtis, Cory Knapp, Mackenzie Knapp, Sydney Knapp, Kyle Zenk and Kourtney Zenk; and two great-grandchildren, Lindsey Buehler and Charli Curtis. She was preceded in death by her parents; oldest daughter, Jeanette Meyer; and youngest daughter, Sheila Curtis. Memorial services will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL HOME, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2011, with the Rev. Jerry Amstutz presiding. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until the time of service on Friday. The family would like to thank the staff at Belmont Nursing Home for all the loving care they provided June over the last several years.
