Archibald, Lester E. "Archie"MADISON/JANESVILLE-Lester E. "Archie" Archibald, age 83, of Madison/Janesville passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Mercy Hospital in Janesville. He was born on April 15, 1928, in Gillespie, Ill., the son of Robert and Marvel Archibald. Archie served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954, stationed in Labador and Germany. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Deuel on Jan. 1, 1987 in Las Vegas, Nev. Archie was a retired Lieutenant with the Madison Fire Dept., retiring in 1984. He lived in Madison from 1952 until 1984, and then in Harrisville from 1984 until 1991 when he moved to Janesville. Archie was a member of Moose Lodge 197, and a lifetime member of VFW Post 1621 in Janesville. He enjoyed spending winters in Arizona, playing golf and shuffleboard, and fishing in northern Wisconsin. Archie is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Janesville; children, Robert (Lynne) of Burlington, Brian (Sandy) of Sun Prairie, Brent (Mary) of Madison, Brad of Portage, and Bruce (Melinda) of Stoughton; step-children, Judy (Ron) St Clair, Richard Deuel, and Dennis (Rose) Deuel, all of Janesville; nine grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; one great granddaughter; 13 step great-grandchildren; and one sister, Phyliss Russell of Fruitland Park, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George Archibald; and sister, Roberta Archibald. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, 2011. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Wautoma on Monday, June 27, 2011, at 11 a.m., with full military honors cunducted. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 p.m. until the time of the service.
