Dr. John S. 'Jack' Boyle

MONONA-Dr. John S. “Jack” Boyle, age 90, of Monona, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was born on March 27, 1921, in Madison, the son of William and Henrietta (Dodge) Boyle. Jack graduated from Madison East High School in 1939, and attended UW-Madison. He then graduated from Marquette University Dental School in 1945. Jack married Edith Pflughoeft on July 24, 1946, in Medford. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on a ship as a dentist. Jack was discharged in 1947, and they moved back to Madison. They built their home in Monona in 1953, and they lived there until 2007. He originally practiced dentistry with his father, Dr. William E. Boyle, and later had his own practice in the Tenney Building for 32 years. Jack enjoyed coaching Monona Little League for many years. He was an active member of the Eastside Optimist Club. He is survived by his son, John (Mary) of Middleton; daughter, Susan (Greg) Radcliffe of Monona; son, Mark (Cathy) of Fond du Lac; 8 grandchildren, Haley, Danny, and Tone Boyle, Jeremy, Ryan, and Brendon Peters, and Sam and Natalie Boyle; brothers, William of Monona and Tom (Marilyn) of Madison; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Edith. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011. Private entombment will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heritage Assisted Living Memory Care, 111 Owen Road, Monona, WI. 53716.
